Every person is different, not just their language, culture, or tradition but also more personal attributes like their body structure, face structure, and their skin type.Â
And as per the skin type, the skincare products also need to be selected as per requirements of the skin. But to be able to choose the right skincare products, you need to be sure of your skin type. What skin type are you? Is your skin oily? Is it dry? Or is it a combination of both?
If you aren’t sure then don’t worry, we have brought you a simple method by which you can determine your skin type. But before that, we shall see which are the various skin types and what makes them so different from each other.
Skin types
There are majorly five types of skin, Dry, Oily, Combination, Normal and Sensitive. These five are broadly divided skin types. Each of these skin types has its own pros and cons depending on how you look at it.
Let’s start the discussion…
Dry Skin
Dry skin is generally identified because of its flaky, scaly or peeling texture. The sebum production is lesser, skin pores are smaller and overall the skin does not retain enough moisture.
Pros
Cons
Skincare for Dry Skin
Because of the dryness and itchiness, people with dry skin also tend to have redness and rashes. To get rid of the dryness, it is necessary that you keep your skin well moisturized and hydrated.Â
Use face moisturizer which can also give you protection from the sun, that will moisturize your face along with protecting it from the sun and its harsh UV rays. Since dry skin is more prone to premature aging, we need to moisturize it well to always keep it hydrated and make sure that no major factor for premature aging like the sun or the free radicals affects our skin.
Our recommendation is Ageless Bee Venom face cream which also protects your skin from UV rays , it hydrates and protects your skin, and also reduces the signs of skin aging.
Oily Skin
Oily skin type, as its name suggests, is a skin that produces copious amounts of sebum. It is identified by shiny skin surface and larger, visible skin pores. The skin, overall, looks more glossy with the tangible oil on the surface of the skin.
Pros
Cons
Skincare for Oily Skin
Because of the excess oil, your skin is more prone to breakouts and acne. Hence, the priority is to keep your skin pores clean and remove excess oil and sebum from your face.
Use a nourishing and gentle face cleanser that will clean your pores and remove extra sebum from your face without dehydrating it. Skin moisture is necessary for youthful and soft skin. If you wish to moisturize your skin further, use a cream or moisturizer that does not clog pores.
We recommend using Ageless White Willow Bark face cleanser and Ageless Bee Venom face cream. It contains Manuka honey and Manuka oil that has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which will get rid of the acne-causing germs.
Combination Skin
Combination skin is simply a combination of both dry and oily skin. While there are many people who think that combination skin is oily in summers and dry in winters, the truth is that combination skin type is oily in some areas while dry in others.
On your face, if your forehead, nose, and chin (your T-zone) are oily while the area under your eyes and cheeks are dry then it means that you have combination skin.
Pros and Cons
Considering the combination of oily and dry skin, combination skin shows the pros and cons of both the skin types.
On the oily parts, it would show the benefits of oily skin while on dry parts it will show the pros of dry skin.
Similarly, for the cons, oily parts are more breakout and acne-prone while dry parts are more likely to age rapidly.
Skincare for Combination Skin
Cleansing and moisturizing different parts of your face is the key to take care of your skin. If need be, use a gentle face cleanser which cleans your face but does not make your skin dry, especially on your cheeks.Â
Like Ageless White Willow Bark face cleanser which has Aloe vera which retains hydration in your skin while White Willow Bark and Tamarind gently clears your skin pores.
If you wish you can moisturize only the dry areas of your face with a moisturizing and protecting face cream like Ageless Bee Venom face cream which does not clog pores and gives you a radiant and brightening skin.
Normal Skin
Normal skin type is probably the closest to perfect skin and is very rare. When the skin elements like sebum production and dryness are perfectly balanced, that is what makes up a normal skin.
Pros
Cons
Skincare for Normal Skin
Just because it is closest to perfect does not mean that it will not need proper skincare. Normal skin can still show the effects of an unhealthy lifestyle and harsh sun and pollution. So the priority for a person with normal skin is to protect their skin from the external factors that induce premature aging.
Using a face cream with the ability to protect your skin from the harmful sun rays, like the Ageless Bee Venom face cream, will help you reduce the damage your skin cells and shield it from further damage. It contains Manuka honey and oil which protects your body from inflammation and heals any damage that your skin may have already suffered. Acai berries help your skin to fight against oxidative stress and protect it from the attack of atmospheric free radicals.
When you return home after a long day, it is necessary that you remove all the impurities from your skin. and an exfoliating face cleanser is enough to do the job. To deeply purify and rehydrate your skin follow cleansing with a revitalizing face mask.
We recommend the Ageless Bee Venom face mask, it has USDA organic rosehip seed oil which will penetrate deep into the layers of your skin and heal the damage caused by UV rays, pollution, and free radicals.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin type is readily prone to inflammation and irritation. People with sensitive skin often suffer from skin inflammation, redness, rashes, and irritation.
Pros and Cons
Since sensitive skin is easily affected by triggers it shows redness, burning, dryness, and rashes which makes it a skin type that needs the most care and caution while using any skincare product.
Skincare for Sensitive Skin
The key to care for sensitive skin is to not use chemically-loaded skincare products. Look for nature-inspired skincare range like the Ageless Series which contains more than 25 ingredients inspired by nature.
How to determine your skin type
After knowing about all skin types, it is now time to determine which one is your skin type. Follow these steps to know which type does your skin falls in.
Step 01:
Wash your face with face cleanser and pat dry. If you had your make-up on, then clean your face with micellar water and then wash your face to completely remove any make-up from your face.
Step 02:
Do not apply any cream, serum or any other skincare product for about 1-2 hours. Make sure that you also do not accidentally touch your face during these hours.
Step 03:
After 1-2 hours, use a soft tissue paper and gently dab on the bridge of your nose. If you see oil patch on the tissue then you either have oily skin or combination skin.
If the tissue paper comes off dry then you may have dry or normal skin.
Step 04 (for oily or combination skin):
Gently dab another tissue paper on your cheeks, if the paper shows signs of oil on it, then you have oily skin. If not, then your skin type is combination.Â
Step 05 (for dry or normal skin):
Slowly pinch your cheek and notice how you feel. If you feel tightness after releasing, then your skin is mostly dry, if not, then you have a normal skin type.
Step 06:
If at any point while trying to determine your skin type, you notice redness, burning or itching sensation, then you may have sensitive skin. To be absolutely sure, contact your dermatologist.
Summary
Different people have different skin types and different skin types need specific skincare. The key is to know your skin type and use skincare products accordingly. With the right skincare, your skin will remain flawless, young and radiant no matter what your skin type is.
