Bee Venom
Bee Venom: Powerful anti-aging ingredient for skin
The honeybee produces have been useful to human beings from ancient times. Whether it is honey or beeswax, people use these products as food and also as topical products because of their skin-loving properties. One compound the honeybees produce is far more superior in its skincare properties than others. So much so, that it has been hailed as “Natural Botox” by its fans. And that compound is Bee Venom.
What is Bee Venom?
As a defense mechanism, bees’ stingers secrete a toxic compound known as Apitoxin which can cause pain, swelling, itching, irritation, and redness to the affected area of the victim’s skin. This apitoxin is also called bee venom.
Although, it causes such a reaction when to our skin, bee venom has some extremely beneficial properties which essentially helps us in keeping our skin healthier and youthful.
Bee venom is a transparent liquid composed of active proteins which cause the irritation and inflammation on our skin, the hyaluronidase found in the venom dilates the capillaries and act as an anticoagulant. The main constituent of bee venom is the protein, Melittin, with peptide bonds made of 26 amino acids. It makes up 52% of the total components present in the bee venom.
When this clear bee venom comes in direct contact with the air, it forms greying white molecules. A single drop of bee venom contains more than 63 compounds in total including the amino acids, enzymes, pheromones, histamine, and hyaluronidase.
Why use Bee Venom in Skincare?
The basic structure of our skin is made up of three proteins, Collagen, Elastin, and Keratin. Out of these, collagen takes up to 30% of the total protein content of the human body. Proteins are necessary to keep the skin structure intact, without which our skin will start to look wrinkly, saggy and old.
These berries are also rich in Vitamins A, B1 (Thiamin), B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), and C. Vitamin A combats fine lines and wrinkles to keep our skin firm and smooth. Thiamin boosts immunity and helps in fighting diseases to keep our body and skin healthy, Riboflavin improves protein and fat metabolism so that the protein we eat gets easily absorbed in the bloodstream and reach the site where it is needed the most. Vitamin B3 or niacin provides moisture to our skin and protects our skin from sun damage as well.
Hyaluronidase dilates blood capillaries to increase blood flow in the dermal layer and plumps up the skin.
Bee Venom has anti-inflammatory properties that protect the skin from damage due to inflammation.
